9Round Fitness - Ever heard of it?

So, I am seriously considering joining 9Round Fitness. What is 9Round Fitness? According to their website, "Whether you’re a beginner just getting started, or a seasoned gym junkie our circuit format is specifically designed to allow you to work at your own pace. You will be able to go at a speed that feels right for you until you’re ready to move up to the next level. This feature makes us truly unique and able to help every body type, safely and effectively!" Let me begin by saying that the traditional gym setting is not for me. Vanity is not enough to motivate me to go. I am so easily bored by exercise bikes, treadmills, and elliptical machines. I think this may work or me on a long-term basis because I like the idea of boxing and using my entire body to workout. Also, 9Round claims that you can burn at least 500 calories from one of their 30 minute workouts! Wow!

So, the cost is around $50 a month - give or take, but if it gives good results and keeps you motivated, then it may be worth it. Also, it is very close to my house, so that will motivate me even more to go. Here is a link to their website.

I'll be signing up soon and I'll be back to give you guys a review. Have you heard of 9Round? If so, what are your thoughts?

Another Weight Loss Journey...

For most of my adult life, I've struggled with my weight. Honestly, I am an emotional eater. I also put myself in very toxic relationships and situations over the years with further fueled my issues with food. Let me just say that it is a struggle every day to eat the right foods. For instance, I was at the hair salon today and someone came in with Sonic. Do you know how bad I wanted to go eat at Sonic when I left there? I didn't though. I thought about the guilt and shame I'd feel after I ate that Sonic Double Cheeseburger. When I overeat, I feel awful guilt. I can admit that food has been my drug of choice for so very long. With that being said, I'm making an effort to do much better this year. I plan to join a gym once I lose my first 30 pounds. I've already lost about 20 without working out. I also purchased a Fitbit Charger HR, which has motivated me to walk and drink more water.

I want to feel healthier. It is not my goal to be thin. I just want to look in the mirror and like what I see. I also want to go to the doctor for once without them telling me that I need to lose weight. Ugh - it is so frustrating! Throughout this process, I have never starved myself. I just make an effort to do better than I have in the past. I no longer overindulge in white potatoes, fried foods, and soda. I believe you can have some things in moderation. Ya know? You don't have to be miserable, but until you can control yourself sometimes you just have to say 'no'. I have a certain weight loss goal that I want to meet, so I've got to stay focused. Tune in here for updates on my journey! :)

Ending Relationships in the New Year

It seems that every year I lose a friend or love interest in the beginning of the year. Why is that? Is it that we are automatically wired to go through change because of the year changing? Do we simply outgrow people? I feel like I try very hard to maintain relationships with individuals, but they don't return the favor. I understand that life happens, but sometimes I don't how individuals just 'drop' people. To me, did you ever really care about me to begin with? Did you or do you care about me being in your life? I don't think I will ever understand it. At this point, I am no longer attempting to maintain relationships with those who don't return the favor. Is it petty? Maybe, but my grandmother always said this: The door swings both ways. In other words, it takes two people to maintain a relationship whether it be friendship or a romantic relationship.

Been in Chicago - I Apologize for the Hiatus!

I've been in Chicago on vacation for the last few days and it was a much needed trip. I apologize for my absence, but I love Chicago and there is so very much to do there. I ate at one of my favorite restaurants, Giordano's Pizza. So, yes, I was off of my diet for the weekend, but I'm getting back on. I didn't gain any weight while I was 'cheating' though, so that is absolutely amazing. Oh, so back to the Giordano's Pizza. They make a stuffed pizza and they also have thin crust pizza. There are other options on the menu, but these are the ones that I love. You can ever order Giordano's Pizza and have it mailed to your home. How awesome is that? You don't have to wait to go to Illinois or Florida to get a slice.

I also went to Uncle Julio's in Chicago and it was a very good eatery as well. The ambiance was just amazing and the food was to die for. I ordered the quesadillas and they certainly did not disappoint. Uncle Julio's is located in Texas, Florida, Washington, D.C., and of course, Illinois. I really wish they'd get one of these in Tennessee. I know that it'd be an absolute hit! If you ever go to Chicago, I highly recommend both of the previously mentioned eateries. Have you been to either of these restaurants? What was your experience like?  Are there any particular menu items that you'd recommend?

To learn more about these great places, you can go to Giordano's website, here and you can visit Uncle Julio's website, here.

Working Out with a Partner - Does It Help?

Working out is something that most people loathe. I like it, but there are some days that I simply do not have the energy or the desire to work out. What do we do to get out of that rut? How can you become and stay motivated? For me, it helps when I work out with a partner because it holds me accountable to someone other than myself. Let's be honest here, if you don't work out, your weight loss is going to progress at a much  slower rate, so if working out is something that you struggle with, I suggest getting a workout partner or personal trainer - sooner than later.

I work out with a personal trainer twice per month and that has really helped me focus and made me more aware of the importance of accountability when you are attempting to make a lifestyle change. Also, I have a friend (Tonya) that I attend exercise classes with at work, so that has been a huge motivator. I don't want to get off track and she knows this, so she is always there to provide me with motivation or that loving shove I need to keep going.

Furthermore, at least one study has shown that working out with partners leads to increased workout time. If you'd like more information about this study, click here.

So, go find your workout buddy NOW! :)

News - Teen Mom Dumped Her Baby on Roadside

Meet Kendra Meaker - a 19 year old mother charged with dumping her 3 week old baby on the side of the road. Ms. Meaker also has an 11 month old. Why don't people just use condoms or get on birth control if they don't want children? Don't we all know where babies come from?

I'm appalled that there are those who feel that this woman should be shown compassion. Did she show her daughter any compassion when she dumped her on the side of the road? They need to lock her up and throw away the key. I am so over these parents harming their children when there are people out there who want to adopt or are attempting to conceive without success.

Furthermore, Ms. Meaker has no job or income - why are you having children that you can't afford? Why does anyone do this? I simply do not understand society anymore. Anyway, here is a link to the story. You can form your own opinion about this woman and her selfish actions.

Recipe - Apple Cinnamon Muffins

Ever have those weeks where you want something other than cereal for breakfast? Well, here's a new Weight Watchers' recipe to try - Apple Cinnamon Muffins. The muffins are very moist and taste wonderful. The great thing about making muffins is that they freeze very well, so you can bake these, then freeze them, and pull one out of the freezer to eat later. Do you have a muffin recipe that is diet friendly? If so, please share it. I'm always looking for new breakfast foods because that seems to be the most boring meal of the day for me. You'll find the recipe for the Apple Cinnamon Muffins below. Enjoy and let me know how your batch turns out.

Apple Cinnamon Muffins

1/2 cup(s) 2% reduced fat milk
1/4 cup(s) sugar
1 Tbsp reduced-calorie margarine, melted
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 medium fresh apple(s), Golden Delicious, peeled and chopped
2 tsp unpacked brown sugar

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350ยบ F. Combine buttermilk baking mix, egg, milk, granulated sugar and margarine in a medium bowl; pour into 6 paper-lined muffin cups. Combine cinnamon, apple and brown sugar in a small bowl; spoon about 2 tablespoons of apple mixture over each muffin. Bake until golden, about 15 to 17 minutes.

These moist, apple-topped muffins are so good you probably won't have any leftovers. But if you do, simply reheat them in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
